Marcin Gala Cueva Cheve - Five Polish cavers from Warsaw took part in an American expedition to Mexican caves lead by Bill Stone in the beginning of 2003. The Cueva Cheve and Cueva Charco were the main goals. The Poles explored some chimney series and took part in transport of diving equipment to the sump. During the expedition two British divers deepened the cave to -1484 m. Mexico

Marcin Gala 2005-comeback to J2- Seven Polish cavers took part in the expedition to Mexico organized by US Deep Caving Team and aimed at farther exploration of the deepest cave of the Americas - Sistema Cheve in Sierra Juarez, Oaxaca. The expedition counted 36 people from USA, Poland, Australia, Spain, Netherlands, Ireland, Mexico, Switzerland and UK. Activity lasted from March 19 to May 10, 2005 (Polish cavers participating from March 19 to May 1). Cave J2 was deepened from 391 m to 1101 m. The lowest part reached consists of spacious, nearly horizontal galleries interrupted by breakdowns. Mexico

Jerzy Zygmunt Aguicoa 2007- Seven cavers from Poland, accompanied by Jose Montiel Castro from Mexico, went to the practically unexplored areas of the Sierra Madre del Sur in Michoacan in Mexico. They explored La Vinata cave - a river course ca. 3 km long and closed on both ends by sumps. They found a bypass of the upper sump too late to follow. They also located several other promising entrances. Mexico

Kasia Biernacka A Happy End of Akemabis - The author took part in an expedition organized by Franco Attolini, Gustavo Vela and Alan Warild to Sotano de Akemabis, Puebla, Mexico in March-April 2008. 17 cavers from Mexico, Spain, Australia, USA, Canada and Poland explored the deepest part of the cave. The bottom was reached at the depth of 1101 m and the cave is 3219 m long. There are other deep caves in the area and many opportunities. Mexico

Kasia Biernacka Expedition to J2 - The author was one of six Polish cavers who took part in the 2009 expedition of "Proyecto Cheve", an international effort initiated and animated by Bill Stone for exploration of the deepest cave system in the western hemisphere. The main goal was to push through sumps at the bottom of J2 in hope of connecting it with Cheve into a cave that would surpass 2 km in depth, dry series bypassing sump. New galleries explored by the expedition seem to turn towards Cheve. Another cave named Last Bash was also explored. It could provide a bypass for the narrow entrance series in J2, but no connection was found. J2 is now 1222 m deep and 11017 m long. Mexico

Kasia Biernacka, Marcin Gala From Russia with Love - expedition to J-2 cave - International team of 14 cavers, including 4 from Poland, continued exploration of J-2 system in Mexico in 2009. Exploration could begin only after two weeks of negotiation with local authorities. The main goal was to communicate Last Bash cave, discovered in 2005, with the main cave and thus secure a shorter and safer access to the final sump. The communication was attained in the expected place. Another goal was to explore an ascending branch before the final sump, found by Russian members of the former expedition. The series, dubbed From Russia with Love, does not seem to provide the desired bypass of the final sump. Diving equipment left at the final sump a year earlier was found suspended between projecting rocks up to 12 m above the sump, providing evidence of the water level rise during the wet season. Mexico

Jerzy Zygmunt and Damian Sprycha Condemned to… MEXICO! - The authors with many Polish colleagues from Silesian clubs and with two Mexican cavers from Base Draco explored caves in Mexican state Michoacan and at the southern margin of the Chihuhua Desert during several expeditions in years 2006-2010. The biggest explored cave was La Vinata, 3300 m long and terminating with sumps. Mexico

47-55 Gracia-Sanchez, J. & Navarro-Gonzales, I. Study of hydraulics and hydrocarbon-pollution behavior of a karst aquifer in a tropical area: Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico. The results of a field investigation on hydraulic and hydrocarbon-pollution behavior in an unconfined aquifer are presented. The study was performed in a site in the peninsula of Yucatan (Mexico), the main characteristics of which are: the presence of karst and the tropical weather (hurricane zone), with substantial variations of the unconfined aquifer level. Hydrocarbon-layer thickness varies over time. Water flows very easily in contrast with hydrocarbons which flow very slowly toward monitoring wells. This fact allows us to evaluate the remediation methods already employed, as well as to recommend new strategies. The aquifer’s upper layer (1.5 m) shows high contents of pollutants, but no drinking water intake was found there. However, 2 km away, where drinking water is extracted at a depth of 40 m, no trace of contaminant was found. hydrology,Mexico

John Frankland caved with the Red Rose club for many years before he became involved with the Cave Rescue Organisation. As a caver and a qualified doctor, he was capable of being at the sharp end of the underground team and made a valuable contribution for many years. He was co-author of the book In this interview, John discusses the various issues associated with being a doctor at the sharp end of cave rescues, in particular the treatment of hypothermia and the use of air re-warmers pioneered by the CRO, and dealing with the press. He also discusses histoplasmosis, for which he advised Sid Perou and others when they were seriously ill with the disease in Mexico in 1983. This was recorded on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Cave Rescue Organisation - hence the background noise.

Mike Boon (1940-2014) was a truly legendary caver whose many outstanding achievements included being a pioneer in the use of aqualungs for cave diving which allowed him to pass Sumps 6 and 7 in Swildon's Hole; explorations at the far end of Mossdale Caverns with Pete Livesey; exploring major river caves in Mexico, Guatemala, and Jamaica; and a solo exploration to the far end of Castleguard Cave in Canada which he pushed to a glacial ice plug. In this recording, made for Sid Perou's film available on Youtube, Derek Ford describes how he persuaded Mike to join his Karst Research Group at McMaster University to help explore the karst of the Canadian Rockies, which eventually led to the Castleguard Cave explorations. He gives a vivid account of Mike's solo exploration in that cave.
